Ever
see a business with a sign obviously painted
by the owner?
How
could you tell? Because it wasn't professional
looking, right? And it doesn't have to
miss the mark by much to look unprofessional
either.
He
probably asked his family and friends what they
thought of his work. But they aren't likely
to pop his bubble. So the poor guy just
goes on never realizing how much business he's
missing.
And
the sign probably looks good in the owner's
eyes. Years ago, when I first started
this business I thought some of my early sites
were 'winners'. I'm embarrassed to look
at them now.
You
see this all the time on the web. Business
that saved a few hundred bucks by doing it themselves
or their brother-in-laws, etc. These are
usually the same guys who will say that it doesn't
pay to have a website. Go figure!
One
of our clients, a home remodeling company, said
it best when I suggested that he could have
saved some expense by having some of the simpler
updates done by one of his office staff. "Sure
I could. And you could remodel your own
kitchen." And he was absolutely right,
I could. But then again, do I have the
know-how, the tools, and most of all, the time
to get it done, and get it done right? Probably
not.
But
